Criss Cross Tank Top

Pattern Notes

This pattern starts at the front, top of the tank and is worked down to the bottom hem - first in rows and then in the round. Sleeves are then added and attached in the back and finally optional trim can be added. Ch2 or Ch1 at the beginning of any rows do not count as a stitch. For the hdc turn stitch in Row 2, 3, and subsequent rows of the sleeves, the "pull yarn through" counts at the yarn over for the stitch.

Pull yarn through last stitch of back, hdc in first stitch of sleeve to turn inside corner. SC up the side (15) fsc 45, ch 1, turn. (60)
Row 3: sc 59, pull yarn though last stitch of sleeve, hdc into first stitch of back to turn inside corner.
SC around back except for last st (48) pull yarn through last st, hdc into first stitch of sleeve.
SC to end of row, ch 1, turn. (59)

*Repeat this process, decreasing a stitch at each inside corner until your sleeves are the desired thickness. For mine, I did 5 rows.

*End at the end of a row, and leave plenty of yarn when you fasten off to stitch your sleeves to the back of the tank top.

*Criss cross the sleeves and use left over yarn to stitch to the back of the tank. I also secured my sleeves where they cross so that they do not move around too much.

Sleeve Trim (optional)
Row 1:
a. Starting at an inside corner of the front, pull yarn through the first stitch and complete a DC. DC in each stitch around to where you attached the back strap. The number of stitches will depend on how wide you attached your straps.
b. Once you reach the last stitch, yarn over, pull yarn through the first two loops but then instead of completing the stitch, SC into the second stitch of the sleeve (skipping the first stitch and turning the inside corner)
c. SC up the side of the strap, switching to the other strap when you reach the criss cross. Continue until you reach the front corner where you started. Skip the last two stitches of the row and join to the top of your first DC.
Row 2:
a. ch2, DC in each DC until you reach the last stitch.
*Repeat steps b and c from Row 1.
Fasten off and repeat on the other side.

Top trim (optional)
Row 1:
a. Attach your yarn to the front right corner and DC in each st across except for the last stitch.
b. Yarn over, pull yarn through last stitch but instead of completing the stitch, SC into the second stitch of the sleeve (skipping the first stitch and turning the inside corner)
c. SC in next 15 stitches. FSC 5 and then join to other strap (join in the 16th stitch from the inside corner where you started.)
d. SC in each stitch down the strap ending at your first DC. Skip the last stitch and join to the top of the first DC. Fasten off.
